Before you know it, Black History Month will be here. Get prepared for this month with purchases now so you will be ready when the month begins. It is the busiest month of year for Africa Imports and it will be just as busy for you as a wholesaler. Don't be caught empty handed. Black History Month was founded in 1915 by Carter G. Woodson who traveled from Chicago to Washington D.C. that was commemorating the 50th anniversary of Emancipation with his display of the progress of African Americans since that event. Thousands of people flocked to the Coliseum where many exhibits were displayed including Woodson's. Inspired by the three-week celebration, Woodson decided to form an organization to promote the scientific study of black life and history before leaving town. On September 9th, Woodson met at the Wabash YMCA with A. L. Jackson and three others and formed the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). He created Negro History Week where. He decided February would be a good month to celebrate black history and achievement because Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass was born this month. He traveled many places to speak about African American history and Negro History Week became very popular. Decades later, it was expanded to Black History Month.
