"Freedom is a hard-bought thing and millions are in chains, but they strain toward the new day drawing near." - Paul Robeson
Paul Robeson was truly a Jack of all trades. He was an acclaimed African American concert singer, scholar, actor, athlete, writer, orator, lawyer and finally a forerunner in the civil rights movement. At the height of his fame, Paul Robeson decided to become a primarily political artist, speaking out against fascism and racism in the US and abroad as the United States government and many Western European powers failed after World War II to end racial segregation and guarantee civil rights for people of color.
