Mothers Day in Malawi

October 15th marks the annual celebration of Mother's Day in Malawi. Current President Bingu wa Mutharika has appealed for intensified support of women by government, the private sector and the donor community to enable Malawian women achieve their best. The president has made the appeal in his Mother's Day message to the Malawi nation in which he pledged his continued promotion and protection and promoting women. “It is my policy that all women in Malawi must be protected and respected and this will enable them to contribute positively to economic and social development of our country,” said Mutharika. President Bingu stressed that he would ensure that no woman in Malawi was stopped from achieving what she wanted for simply being a woman. “As we celebrate Mother's Day this year, I wish to call upon all mothers in Malawi to work hard in order to achieve their dreams and attain their aspirations,” he said.
