Celebrating Parents Day in Congo! August 1st

07/29/2010 09:35

In Congo, there is no Mother's Day or Father's Day, but they do celebrate Parents Day! On the 1st of August every year children choose to honor their parents through hand-crafted gifts, songs and special events and activities.

What is a Typical Family Like in Congo? While no family is 'typical', families are often very large and consist of many relatives, such as grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. The average woman bears five children, although in rural areas the number is often twice that high. Mothers are usually in charge of child-rearing, housekeeping, and painting, while fathers are usually the ones providing for the family through paid employment.
