Make Your Own African Baby Oil

01/08/2010 15:18

When it comes to baby care, the healing power of nature is always the best solution. Babies have such sensitive, beautiful skin, that it's a shame so many baby care products on the market are filled with chemicals, detergents, dyes, and fragrances that can irritate babies' skin. Africa is home to many natural butters and oils that do wonders to keep infant eczema at bay, as well as diaper rash, or any kind of dryness or irritation. Shea nut oil is our choice for the best African baby oil.

Here's how to make a simple softening baby oil with shea nut oil:

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon shea nut oil

1/8 teaspoon Vitamin E

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil

1. Mix all the ingredients together in a dropper bottle and shake gently to combine. To use, apply to baby's skin after bath using only a tiny bit. For a 10 pound infant, 6 to 8 drops is sufficient for arms and legs as only a light layer is necessary for baby skin. Use more for toddlers and larger babies.

2. If fresh oils are used to make this product, the shelf life will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 months. It will last longer if kept refrigerated during any extended periods of non-use. If the product starts to smell badly, the oils have become rancid and the product should be discarded.
