Happy Black History Month! In honor of this special month, our quote of the week is actually a short poem by Langston Hughes (February 1, 1902 – May 22, 1967). What better person to kick off such a wonderful month; especially that it coincides with what would have been Mr. Hughes 110th birthday (February 1st)!
DREAMS by Langston Hughes
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
Mr. Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist. He was one of the earliest innovators of the then-new literary art form jazz poetry. Mr.Hughes is best known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance.
