This Memorial Day we want to honor some of the exceptional African American heroes who have served our country over the years. We hope you all have a blessed Memorial Day!

firefight early in the Vietnam War. He threw his body onto a grenade
that enemy soldiers had thrown; thus saving four soldiers by forfeiting
his own life. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of

James Reese Europe served as a lieutenant in the segregated 369th Infantry Regiment (the "Harlem Hellfighters") during World War I. He went on to become the first Black officer to lead troops into combat during the war. His military band also helped popularize American jazz music in France.
