Not everyone knows who Marcus Garvey is; his name doesn't strike the same kind of recognition that Martin Luther King Jr. does, but he was also an important figure in civil rights history. Marcus Garvey dedicated his life to encouraging and uplifting Black Americans by creating the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). Some of his ideas weren't wholly accepted, but he did have many positive effects on the civil rights movement, and worked to motivate and encourage many people. Marcus Garvey's Main Goals Were to: - Promote the spirit of race, pride and love; - Administer to and assist the needy; - Establish universities, colleges and secondary schools for the further education and culture of the boys and girls of the race; - Conduct a worldwide commercial and industrial intercourse
