Africa Imports oil bottles shown full at each size, each with airspace at the top

Oil bottles are not filled all the way to the top when they’re full. There is an airspace at the top which allows for expansion from temperature changes. The bottles shown have exactly the quantity of oil as the size of the bottle.

Bottles that hold liquids need an air space at the top. This allows the liquid to expand and contract when the temperature changes, and it helps to prevent leakage. Each size of bottle is made a little larger for this reason, so the full amount of oil can be added without the bottle being overfilled. A one ounce bottle holding one full ounce of oil will not be filled right to the very top, and neither will any of the other sizes.

The photo above shows each size of bottle when it’s perfectly filled to hold exactly the amount of liquid it’s labelled for. At first glance a bottle may look as though it’s not completely full, but if any more were added, there would be too much liquid inside.
