Karkar oil is a combination of different ingredients which come from Chad in Africa. It has been used by women in Chad and Sudan who are said to have the longest hair in Africa. This is in spite of the fact that hair in northern Africa is usually more dry and brittle than hair from other regions.

Karkar oil protects hair in several different ways. It protects by sealing in moisture and preventing breakage. It also contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C, unsaturated fatty acids, and other minerals that contribute to hair growth. It also has natural anti-bacterial properties and protects the scalp from parasites and other irritants which can cause dandruff and dryness.

There are other benefits to hair from Karkar oil. Here are a few.

  • Can slow down premature graying
  • Protects hair from the sun's damaging UV radiation

  • Prevents split ends

  • May help reduce symptoms of eczema and psoriasis

Karkar oil is becoming much more popular worldwide. It is one of the most popular natural hair care options for African-American hair, which often becomes dry and brittle from chemicals such as relaxers.

How to use Karkar oil

Karkar oil and Chebe powder are two African products that are often used together. This gives your hair the additional benefits of each. chebe-powder.jpg

Chebe powder is often used for cleansing the scalp due to its gentle, non-irritating properties. Karkar oil is used to make the hair softer and more manageable because it provides Vitamin A, Vitamin C, unsaturated fatty acids, and other minerals that contribute to hair growth. The mix of both chebe powder and Karkar oil can help keep your scalp healthy, caring for your roots while adding body to your locks.

Here is one DIY method for treating your hair with Chebe powder and Karkar oil

After you have shampooed your hair, mix the following ingredients in a bowl.

  • Add five tablespoons of chebe powder to one cup of warm water in a bowl, mix together until it turns into paste-like consistency.

  • Add the karkar oil to the mixture and stir well. Massage the mixture gently all over your scalp for ten minutes

  • Rinse out.

Caution: Always do a patch test on your skin before applying any new product to your hair to check for any allergic reactions.

Using Karkar oil about three times a week is sufficient for keeping hair moisturized, soft, and thick. Using more often than this can break down the protective barrier on the scalp which could cause the other issues with your scalp.

Other ways to use Karkar oil in your hair

  • Some people use Karkar oils as a mask: leaving on their head for 1-2 hours, and then rinsing it off with shampoo.

Some people say that chebe powder can damage the scalp. Most people who we have seen or read from say that using chebe helps their scalp. Karkar oil definitely helps to protect the scalp from any possible damage, so using chebe and Karkar together, makes sure that you are protected this way.
